Christmas time has always been a good time of year for producers and companies. We find ourselves buying a lot more than what we need due to the excitement, plus there is no better excuse than saying 'hey it's christmas' when pondering a purchase. Sometimes we find as a result of our 'anything goes' purchasing strategy the products become more unethical or lazy in their packaging. An example of this lazy, destructive packaging is Woolworths Santa's 30 Candy Canes, in which it contains a cardboard box, which has been shrinkwrapped, a clear plastic screen and 30 platic pockets to hold the candy canes. This is 34 pieces of packaging for 30 candy canes, there is more plastic in our products nowadays than the product we actually purchase. We need to become ethical consumers and stop buying products that will eventually come back to us in the form of trash piles, toxic gases or in our water which has made it there by leaking through our landfills (leachate).
