There are many poor examples and facts that come from packaging in our supermarkets such as "Australians used 3.9 billion plastic shopping bags in 2007... 2.96 billion of these came from supermarketsbut we are not making a change if we just call out all the wrongs in the supermarket and then regretfully buy the product anyway." (http://www.environment.gov.au) We need to stand up and have our voice heard, if you want to make a complaint you can call or email the company, or post a message on their Facebook wall (assuming they have one) or you could tell your friends about the company and have less people encourage the companies behaviour.Us consumers must be ethical in our choices, the choices we are making are destructive for our own lives ultimately, "In Australia, we generated 43.8 million tonnes of waste in 2006-7. That works out to be about 2,000 kg / person – that is, in one year." If one human can create 2000kg of wastea year, than certainly one person can make a dramatic change by being an ethical consumer. So how do we do this? What is ethical consumerism and how do we do it? Ethical consumerism is buying products that are recycable, or packaged lightly. Some ethical consumers don't go to supermarkets, we can actually buy products without using any plastic packaging if we attend markets with jars and or recyclable bags.
Although the easiest way to lower our annually output of waste is to follow the Waste Management Hierarchy (as seen to your left) . At the top of is the most preferable of waste control, AVOID, we simply avoid large amounts of waste all together. And at the bottom is dispose which is least preferable but sometimes is necessary. Everything in-between is methods of controlling and lowering our waste which are sorted from 1-7 on there preferability to our environment.

SUNNY FARM EGGS
This is a sustainable form of packaging the carton is made out of recycled material and egg shells are compostable and a good example of ethical consumerism. Unlike packaged items these are not made in factories which use vast amounts of energy and carbon emmissions, "1.9 million tonnes of packaging waste produces the same amount of greenhouse gas as 860,000 cars."
